I've been an electrician for 18 years! Started in the residential field at 17, continued and got into the film union doing lighting. Went to school for Architectural Lighting Design, moved to Vancouver and continued in film as a lead setwireperson designing and building lights. I've run Lady Electric for 7 years serving home owners and competed in the TV show Tough as Nails!
When I lived in Oakville, On I spoke in person for elementary classes and school assemblies once a month and would share my experience being an electrician and the excitement of lighting and film and television! I encourage students to learn into their curiousities and all the potential experiences that are out there. I emphasize that learning is continuous and you can forever pivot and grow in different areas. This year I have spoke to 13 kindergarten classes in BC as well 350 grade 7 students in the Halton District School Board sharing a slide presentation of my career/life for 20 minutes. I speak at BCIT to the electrical foundation course about my career and experience being an electrician. I love instilling excitement in the journey of work and learning and the confidence it builds knowing how to fix things! I also love being a safe person people feel comfortable to ask an array of questions to!
In my life so far I have learned ASL at UBC, and then pivoted careers to be a structural firefighter . I now work on Ambulance as an EMR (emergency medical responder) and continue to learn into my curiousities. I got headhunted to work the federal election in 2015 for 6 weeks touring with the Liberal party learning about politics and doing the lighting and sound. I then competed on a TV show Tough as Nails as the only Canadian female. I kicked butt! It was such a positive experience . I believe in the power of story-telling and hope to inspire the joy of learning in others and to not be afraid of trying new things and not being great. A lot of people (kids esp.) don't have positive role models at home to build their own beliefs about themselves and what is possible. I have a lot of love and excitement to bring into this world and hope my story can instill possibilities in others.❤️
